I have a 71 skylark gs convertible that calls for bittersweet mist metallic. Which paint company has the most accurate representation of this color? I will be spraying base/clear.
I find that PPG always has the most accurate colors. Your paint jobber can usually do spray outs of different brands so you can compare. Don't just paint and hope for the best.
You can never tell by pictures. Only good way is in person. That picture looks more 72 flame orange to me.
You could pull off kick plate at carpet. and give it a camera shot. Then make a spray out card. what is nice about pulling of kick plate is that the factory lacquer is like new and scratch free.
I would highly recommend BASF Glasurit or R-M. They have about the best b/c on the market, and have formulas for all the old car colors. For a small fee, I can mix that color in R-M and do a sprayout card for you. We have a mixing system at my dad's shop, and I've done that for a few other people on v8.
The problem sometimes with those areas is that they may or may not have full coverage and may not have gotten a drop coat like the exterior to stand the metallic up. Also, those spectrophotometers are not always real close on picking colors. We send samples in regularly, sometimes excellent results, but far from 100%.
