Looking for the definition of how a '71 GS was badged from the factory.

GS emblem on the trunk lid, one on each fender, one in the grill.
Believe the GS455 had the "455" under the "GS" on the fenders.
Believe the GS350 has "Buick Motor Division" under the "GS" on the fenders.

Badges differ from year to year?

    Cheers.

Steve, mine is an original GS 350 car, completely unmolested and it had/has GS by Buick in the front grill (single emblem). GS badges with Buick Motor Division on the two front fenders. On the trunk, is GS by Buick (2 separate emblems).

    Hi Jim,
    Appreciate the reply.
I'm just starting the process to clone my car into a GS.

    Yes,

    "GS
    By Buick" on the grille.

    GS
either "455", "BMD" or "Stage 1" on the fenders and

    GS
    "By Buick" on the decklid

I have accurate templates for the fenders and decklid if you like I can send them to you.

    Hi Matt,
Sure would like the templates. How can I get a set?
My take on the Assembly Manual drawings is the BMD & 455 fender emblems both take the same holes.
Doing this in steps. GS350 first. Once I get a TH400 ready I can put in the 455.
    That's when I'll swap emblems.
Repro emblems mount same holes as the originals?

    Steve,

Yes, the BMD and 455 emblems used the same hole pattern. That is the template I have. St1 used a different hole spacing, although, I think the GS emblem was in the same place as the BMD/455 applications. The decklid template I have is actual sheetmetal I cut from a junk '71 GS (Flint). I'll make copies of my templates and send them to you via mail. I should be able to get them out this week.

Steve, just beware before you go drilling holes that aftermarket badges pins in the back can be a little off. I know on the trunk lid the original emblems had wire type spring clips that allowed the emblems to just pop in. Ditto for the small by Buick emblem. The new ones Pobably have speed nuts. The fenders/grille embelms are speed nuts. Best get the emblems and match up to the templates they give you before you shoot the holes.

I also have two original 71 GS trunk lids with the correct holes. Would be interesting to see if they are all the same with Matts to see if factory used a template. I know one is Flint car not sure on the other.

    Dave,
That's my plan. I'll get them in hand, position them per Matt's templates/dimensions. Drill holes to match.
The 72 GS350 parts car I have is so rusted & patched I don't want to use it as a template as it may be off.
Looking at emblems from "Gene's Buick Parts", a vendor on E-Bay.
Claims they are very good reproductions, made in USA.
Don't think anyone here on this site is selling them?

I just bought some fresh emblems and decals from him Steve, I was very happy with how they looked, the pricing and shipping also was reasonable.

Could you provide a link to one of his auctions, please? You apparently cannot search for sellers by name on eBay, and there are hundreds of auction hits for 'buick emblem*'.

Unable to provide a link.........just not sure how to do it. Old guy syndrome.
Search under Google or any search engine for " Gene's Buick Parts".
His E-Bay store will be one of the results, close to number 1.
