As part of the front end rebuild I installed new dust shields on my car and they don't look right, too bright, cheap looking. Should they be painted or should I leave them alone?

They are suppose to be silver cadmium so they are probably correct. I have not seen repros except in pictures but they look OK. Just drive them for a while and they will not look shiney for long.

That is a clear (silver) zinc plating that they apply to these repro shields. Like Dave says, with time, humidity, etc they will dull out somewhat. A year or so from now you might be asking...."why are my new dust shields all dull looking":Brow:

Guys, I painted mine with one of Eastwoods paints(can't rember which one) two years ago and they still look new. Probably will outlast plating I bet.

Back when we restored my 70 Chevelle in the early 90's, the repro's had just came out from Chevelle Classics (OPGI) and had that finish. I just assumed that was what they were supposed to be.
But I bought a pair of NOS ones several years ago, and they are kind of a dull galvanized finish. I would think that's probably what the originals were.
