All: Is it logical that my 71 GS was built with an AM radio and optional rear speaker? The original package tray is the woven mesh variety with an oval of small holes behind the rear passenger side (lucky passenger ) There is a single blue wire under the carpenting which runs between the dash and the trunk. After providing my POP info, a fellow board member indicated my car should have the AM radio. Why would a buyer upgrade to the rear speaker with an only an AM radio? AM Gold?
David, It doesn't surprise me at all. My 69 convertible has a front and rear speaker, stock. Remember, the 71 GS didn't even have STEREO yet, so why wouldn't you get a rear speaker with AM? The kids in the back need to listen to something too!
Hey Chris! Was 8-track available in 71? I have two holes below the ash tray which I hoped belonged to an 8-track bracket.
That's the way my GSX came through- AM with rear speaker. If I recall correctly, the rear speaker wire that comes from the radio connector is dark blue.
8-track was available in 71. Two hole monting bracket used. There are some pictures on site of 8-tracks...can not locate. Maybe someone can post one for you. HTH
Wow. I think the radio and speaker are the only Buick pieces that haven't appreciated over time. BTW - did the 71 GS have an all black 8-track, or an interior color unit?
All I have ever seen is black. Have seen big car 8-tracks that are interior color. They are an entirely different looking unit.
'71 8 - Track Here's a pic of my '71 Skylark with an 8-Track. Black when I bought it, painted it to match the interior. Not sure if it's exactly "correct" but I like it.
8-track Try it again. No go. File is too large. Send me your private e-mail & I'll get it over to you.
I sent you an e-mail Steve. Thanks. Scott: Does an amp belong with the 8 trak? Do you have photo of the bracket? Thanks everyone for your replies! :Comp:
