Steve: Sorry for all the questions, would this be for a air or non air car ? or doesn't it make a difference ? Thanks, Ken
Idle compensator was for AC cars....when AC turned on....the solenoid activated to keep the engine for bogging when sitting at idle w/AC on.
Ken, This is not associated with the AC in any way. Later cars had compensators for the AC, Vette for one. Purpose of this set-up is to replace the dash-pot. Early build '71 cars had dash-pots, later build cars were factory equipped with this set-up. Either system AC or non AC. Extension harness provides 12V to the solenoid with ignition ON. Decal describes how to set it up.
Steve: I'm really confused now ! I admit I'm not sure if it's the right one for my car. Hang on to it for a bit for me. I will ask Duane about it. Thanks, Ken
Steve, News to me.....all the AC cars here in FL had the power for the solenoid coming from the green turn-on wire to the AC compressor......guess I learned something new.:TU:
Hey George, I learn something new everyday too. (I just bought a used boat but that's a story for another time. I thought it was just old Buicks that could be expensive!) The Service Bulletin mentions all V8 engines with AT. Production code 275, it's dated 5-21-71. I'll e-mail you the bulletin & maybe Ken can e-mail the instruction sheets. You can just make it out on the pic posted earlier. Uses the TCS harness & extends it with an intermediate piece. This might make an addition to your article on the different solenoids available? I'll also send the bulletin describing the MT cars. Package is boxed & ready to ship. Perhaps Ken can take a better pics of the different brackets used on the different engines for '71?
Can i get that info as well ? I have 2 72 350 GS standard trany cars without air. Both cars were worked on and do not have dash pot or elect. cyl. on carbs that are 7042244. not sure what they must have.
Aget, I just listed some solenoids for sale....I have two of the 1972 versions for you. See the drawing Steve provided and I am sure you can make your own wiring harness....doesn't look difficult to make. See my posting here for the solenoids.
Send me your e-mail & I'll forward the documents. Keep in mind these are for '71 model year. The '72 solenoid AT pieces mounted differently, not sure on the MT set-up.
