The previous owner of my 1970 skylark painted the bumpers. I now have the chance to buy some chrome bumpers from a 1971 skylark for dirt cheap. Will they fit?
Bumpers & bumper brackets are all different from 70 to 71. To make the rear bumper work you would have to modify the gas tank because the filler neck sits lower on the 70. To make the front bumper work you would need to change the bumper, bumper brackets, grille, headlight bezels and probably some other parts I have missed. My advice is to find a set of 70 bumpers or have yours rechromed. Besides, I like the 70 front & rear ends better anyway. Good luck. :TU:
I'm not sure what may have been changed on my car before I bought it, but I have since been notified that the rear bumper on my '70 is in fact a '71 bumper. I think it looks fine. I took it off for re-chroming last summer, no problem removing or re-attaching it. No interference with the gas filler neck.
Yep Ian...thats definitely a 71 rear bumper. It will fit(maybe the tank has been swapped)or they just bent the filler tube or left it alone. If you try the other way,70 bumper with a 71-72 tank,You'll see the problem. The neck will hit the license plate. You also need a new specific hood chrome from the 70 to 71 or 72. They are all different shaped. If you use all the parts for each year,It will physically bolt on,but matching parts from a 70 to the 71-72 will look odd.
