Im currently dismantling a skyark that I bought and was wondering if anyone knows a fix for the rust problem around the upper deck lid filler panel and rear windows that the GM A body cars all have. Im having to replace all of the sheet metal around that area and was just thinking and hoping someone has found a fix for it.

Contact Then & Now Restorations, owner is a member here. They sell a perfect rear deck replacement panel. Installed one on my own car a couple years back. Starts at the forward edge of the trunk opening, includes the lower channel for the glass & stops after the return on the package tray. Starts at the factory body seam at the quarters each side.

Thanks thats perfect! Also I should have written it a little better but I was also wondering if this is something I will have to worry about happening again? I know it would be 20 years down the line or so but I was just curious if there was a long term fix for this.

The replacement panel is a direct replacement piece, fits like a glove.
My old car will likely never need another one. 41 years old now, only sees 800 1000 miles a year. Gets wet only when I wash it.
Wish I had replaced it when I first restored the car but seemed fine at the time.

Yeah Im not in a hurry to drive it, I just dont want to have to cut it up again in 10 years or whatever.. I plan on driving it, not daily but Im a beleiver in the fact that if you pay good money for something you had better enjoy it! haha

Once the panel is replaced, paint the window channel where water may collect with a rust convertor type paint. I use a moisture-cured urethane product call mastercoat by masterseries:
