Was 7041242 the only part # for Stage 1 carbs? Wasn't there also one for the manual trannies? Thanks.:beer
When looking at Q-jet codes, the last digit is even for automatics and odd for manual trans. So, the carb number breaks down as follows for 7041242: 704 --- 1965-75 Q-jet carb 1 -- 1971 car 2 -- I can't remember 4 -- Buick Motor Division 2 -- Automatic car, except for Buick Stage 1, used for both auto and manual trans models.
George - here's the codes for that one: 0 - Monojet (1 bbl) Federal standards 1 - Two jet (2 bbl) Federal standards 2 - Quadrajet (4 bbl) Federal standards 3 - Monojet (1 bbl) California standards 4 - Two jet (2 bbl) California standards 5 - Quadrajet (4 bbl) California standards 6 - VariJet (2 bbl) Fed The last # being even was what threw me. Exceptions to everything.ou:
Not sure on the rebuildable unit, but there was an NOS one that had been rebuilt already that bid up to $635 or so.....didn't meet the reserve though.
Hi: I'm new to this site, but thank God I found it. Just bought a 70 Stage 1 Coupe (definitely a Stage 1, but lacking original carb). Has carb number 7029240 which I take is a 1969 Buick carb? Is the correct 70 Stage 1 carb 7040240? I see different numbers in various Buick publications. I also have a 70 GS455 Convert with replacement 455 with 71 heads and corect 70 intake. It has carb 7043240. I take it this is a 1973 Buick carb? Thanks for any help you can give me. Pete Lyon Denver
7040240 is a 455 carb, non Stage 7043240 is a 455 carb, rated at 800 cfm. One of the best. Here is a link with the info http://www.buickperformance.com/qjet.html Good Luck!
