I bought a parts car '72 Riv which I will be picking up this weekend. One of the items I wanted was the Windshield as I have a chip out of the one on my existing car. Long story short, a tree branch dropped on the car from a passing storm and cracked the windshield in the parts car. The guy selling the car has a '74 Riv and is offering that winshield as a replacement if it will fit. Anyone know if the windshield remained unchanged during the '73 - '74 styling change? Thanks!
Yes, they will interchange 71 till 76 Rivieras shared the same windshield (as with much other 71-76 GM full size... except station wagons and convertibles) There are windshields with and without antenna
Uh,windshield is E body only. Riv,Toronado, and Eldo. coupes. '71-'76 and up to '78 on the Eldo. B and C body windshields won't interchange. And of course the convertible is all it fits, even the Eldo.
Thanks for the info, looks like there's plenty of donor cars. I emailed the seller to see if he has one of those models in the yard. Thanks again.
You won't like the way the B and C body windshields fit if you get one from ,say a '74 LeSabre 2dr. It will fit in the Riv,but the upper ends don't curve back enough to match the Riviera windshield frame and you will have a big gap at each end. Voice of experience from a mistake I made years ago. Ken, take my advice and get a windshield from an E body only.
Than why does even the Buick manual have the same part numbers for a 74 LeSabre 2dr (B) and 71-76 Rivieras (E)? (see Yuk's attachement)
the pic i posted is from the 1975 buick master parts book. sounds like his results would be from a 71-76 gm fullsized convertible windshield. they will only fit convertibles correctly.
I cut a windshield out of a '74 leSabre 2 dr to put in a '72 Riviera way back in 1990. Well it fit,but there was a big gap on the ends at the top. I then got a windshield out of a '76 Bonneville 4dr with the same result. They won't work. I found one in a '78 Eldorado and it fit like a glove. I looked in my friend's Hollander Interchange book and it showed that only the E body windshields interchange. The B and C body windshields won't work. In fact all the B and C windshields interchange with all body styles except the convertible and E body. But go ahead, try one from a B,C body. You'll find out.
Got a call from Nailhead Tom T this morning. He found a new never installed Riv windshield for a decent price, so I snapped it up. Original PPG glass, so thicker than aftermarket replacement stuff. The guy I'm getting the car from is going to knock a few bucks off the price for the windshield, so all will work out. Thanks for the heads-up on the E vs B-C issue. Probably were close enough that they said screw it and just made one replacement part, but doesn't fit quite right.
Probably from the same guy who decided all 67 - 70 Riviera engine mounts were all the same as well. Not even close. Thanks for the info Ted. Experience speaks louder than numbers in a book.:TU:
My 76 LeSabre 4dr(hardtop, not sedan), 76 LeSabre 2dr, and 73 Riviera all took the exact same window, the 0778. I just replaced all three of them for various reasons. Each one fit fine, all the way around.
