Can anyone tell me what the difference betw. base 72 Skylark and Custom is? ALso, did they have different vinyl roof's? I have seen some with full roof and some with the "halo" style roof that leaves about an inch betw. vinyl and side windows. Also, does anyone reproduce the rocker panel moldings for these cars? Thx.
Besides the emblems I believe another difference is the grill - Skylarks used a plastic grill like the '72 GS and the Custom used a metal grill.
Yeah, mainly trim. Also, all convertibles were Customs, at least '70-72. I think Buick sort of replaced the "Special" with the "Custom", though there were probably more notable differences between the Special and the standard Skylark. My '72 Skylark Custom came with a PS, PB, tilt wheel, vinyl top, metal grill, rear defrost, and woodgrain-style door panels. No power doors/windows/seats, A/C, FM, clock, or needle gauges. Not sure what steering wheel or wheels came with it. The vinyl top is long gone. EDIT: Rocker panels are available at many places (Year One, OPG, etc.)
The Parts Place has reconditioned 1970-72 rocker panel moldings but you have to exhange your set for theirs. You can do a search on their site through this link: http://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/ocatalog/part.asp?VID=6&YearList=1972
What about the vinyl roof? I noticed some that have the "halo" style and some where the vinyl goes all the way down to the windows. Is the halo style just for the Custom?
I beielve that style roof was just for the custom as It was not used on a GS. There is a 70 Custom and also maybe a 72 near me in a junkyard with that style roof.
