72 bucket conversion

    converting 72 a-body to buckets from bench,have original floor brakets saved from long ago,its been along time,isnt one of the bench mounting points used so you have a reference point to weld the bucket brackets in place?also any ref points to weld in long center console brackets?thanks AJ

    I submitted a sketch of dimensions for the mtg. studs on a bucket seat car. The rear outboard position uses the stock threaded hole as for the bench. Measurements were taken from an Olds in a local yard. Worked out well for my '71.

    Easiest way is to use the 4 piece kit(repro) or the 4 piece from the donor car. The front outside point is moved inward...towards the driveshaft tunnel exactly 1". Mount that stud and skip/tack weld it in place. Place the bucket seat in the car.......and position the long bracket...goes next to the driveshaft tunnel on the floor under the bucket seat feet. Now, mount the out side points....closest to the door sill. Square-up the seat...so it is parallel with the dash. You can place a nut on the front outside point and then install a screw in the rear outside foot.....using the outside hole in the foot. Now, use a couple of tack welds to hold the long bracket in place. Remove the seat and weld both brackets to the floor.
