Im looking to put 17-7" wheels on my 72 skylark convertible after the rear disk conversion is installed, I need to know what tire sizes are my options for this without having any rubbing issues.

No first hand experience with your particular car but I would start by looking at the Tire Rack
web site. You can look up specs on different sizes, diameters, back spacing, etc.
If you like the diameter of your old tires you can figure out what 17 inch size is equal.

Tire rack doesn't list that far back, just need a general idea of people's tire sizes, the tires on the stock 14" wheels aren't anywhere near the size I need

With 15s.. 245-60s on the front and 275-60s on the back with stock 15x7 rims.. Anything bigger becomes questionable..

With some math and Tire Rack you should be able to figure out what you need..

The rim height has nothing to do with back spacing requirements. The rim width does, so your 17 X 7" wheels need the same back spacing as the stock 15 X 7" Rallye wheels. The 7" wheel has a 4 1/4" back spacing, and that is what you need to center the wheel in the wheel well. If I was you, I'd look into an 8" wide wheel. In that case, you need 4 1/2" back spacing. You can fit a P295 tire back there with an 8" wide wheel. The wider tires need a wider wheel. The 72 Skylark/GS has big wheel wells. Just get the back spacing right.

    I wouldnt bother with a 17x7..do at least a 17x8 in front with 245-45 with 4.5-4.75 bs and atleast a 17x9.5 in back with 5.5 to 5.75 bs mounted to a 275-40
hell you could go 17x11 in rear if you get something in the 6in to 6.25bs region

also you cant do the same width with 17+ as you can with 15/14s

heres a quick reference what you should shoot for
for 17x7 a 225 would be ideal size
step up to 17x8 for 235-245
    step up to a 17x9.5 for 255-275
    305/315 you'd want to shoot for 17x11

im basing this off of tires with a sidewall series of 35-45
if you go with a 50 or 55 series tires you can go a lil wider on a skinnier rim.

Also if you want some tire height stagger without lowering the car to look good with springs and such
    275/40ZR18x9.5 is at 26.7 and do a 17x8 up front with a 245-45
