    I know more history about the buick i got then most of you guys seem to have there with your own cars. Anyways im trying to figure out as much as i can about my car. I'm skeptical that the first owner had done something to hide if its a GS or not. MAybe even a badge delete option? Just wanted to throw that out there. But where can i find the build sheets, engine codes, etc? I have found a small piece of paper under my rear seat but it doesn't seem to be any help. I can't decode it. I have a pic but don't know how to post yet so no pics for now. Any ideas where? BTW i have a 72 Boattail if that helps.

    Thanks

    Rob

    Check for the engine code (two-letter code) next to the dipstick tube opening on the deck of the negine block. You may have to degrease that area to make it visible.

    No its much smaller. Like 3 and 1/2 by 5 inches. This might not be the build sheet as i said. it goes as the following.

    69 4660
    9487 688
    901-51-31-46-U3-K1
    D56

    If someone can tell me how to post a pic i can or if someone wants to. I can't get to the engine for a year or two because the car is on jacks and the shelf above is just far out enough so the hood can't open that much.

    I think I can identify some of the codes on that sheet;

    U3=Sun shade map light
    K1 = cornering lights.

    Did you contact the Sloan Museum to see if they have the original order info for your car? Give them a call with your VIN number and have them check for you. I think they charge $25 if they do have it. That info will tell you what options your car was originally ordered with.

    Rob,
    That sheet was used by fisher body to build your interior/shell.

    The Sloan Museum would have VIN information on your car. They would be able to provide you with all the original options (I think the fee is currently $25)

    Give them a call :TU:

    In 72, the VIN shows which engine the car was built with. If it came with the big valve engine, it will be 4Y87W..... if it is a regular Riv it will be 4Y87U.......
