I just picked up a set of rods in a wrecking yard this afternoon. These are for my 72 'X. They came off a 4G37 car, build date 09B 71; a real early 72 GS. These rods are straight, without the wave (to clear the receiver/dryer) that I thought were common on all the 72's...were these rods only placed on AC cars? Just curious...
I think both rods were the same part #. I do not think my AC equipt 71 have a wave and they fit fine!
con't I have a straight set on my 70 GS as well, with AC, and they seem to fit OK. Just wanted to make sure I had the correct part here, most of the 72's I've seen have had the wavy rods, maybe this is a plant issue? Or, as a post stated (in this forum I've been reading over the last couple days) these buicks were built by human beings... (!)
Wierd. My ragtop sept 71 Flint build had the wavy ones as did my 72 GS parts car Oct 71 Fremont built. Neither are a/c cars. later Tim
con't The parts car was built in Freemont, if that makes any difference. BTW, there was nothing left of this car, surprised the rods were still there...
The reason for the curve was the change to a shorter but larger diameter ac drier in 71. All 70 models used a long, smaller diameter drier.
Every 72 I've seen has the wavy rods...I'm beginning to wonder if this parts car wasn't involved in an accident at one point and the parts were replaced with what was available stock-wise, or wrecking yard-wise. After 30 years, who knows what could have happened? And I didn't check the core support for either a part # or the headlite bucket retainers...would have been a dead giveaway whether the sheetmetal was original or had been replaced...ou: (with the correct or incorrect parts)
