Thanks to a bunch of you for your help with parts and this project. First buick I ever owned, and I have had hundreds of cars. This site has been a great help along the way.

We are going to paint shop now in pieces, so I thought I would show you what we are doing.

This is what we started with. Picked it up on Ebay and drove it 400 miles home. This will be my son's (in the pics) car and he will drive it daily. We are cloning a GSX. It is a 72 custom with 350/2. Fire Red is original color with white interior. We are staying with Fire Red and changing interior to black. Putting headers and 4bbl intake and Qjet is all of the engine mods.

I will post more as we go. Thanks again for the help from everybody.

Here are a few more pics of the project.

We are doing all of the work ourselves, except paint and body. We have the GS hood, snorkel air cleaner, and interior pieces. Still need spoiler and hood tach.

Surprise, found some rust holes in driver side floor. Just going to patch since most of the floor is good.

Bought a parts car local, that is in better shape body wise than this car. Taking pieces we need and may sell the rest. My son is having a blast building this. He now wants to keep the parts car, put in a 455 and have matching cars. Not a bad plan.

    Adding some more pics.

Took it to the interior shop to finish the inside, then to the paint shop. GS hood and front fenders are already being done.

My son turned 16 last week and he has been helping me with this. It will be his car for a daily driver when finished.

Seats, carpet, headliner are all in now. Taking Monday to paint shop to get it finished, then we will put in the stereo, and door panels.

So close, but so far away.

Looks like it's got alot of potential ! Good luck ! If the engine isn't going to have a smog pump on it , you might want a symetrical ram air air cleaner.( NON 72 ) :Do No: Hey ! I just happen to have one !If that 72 is in good shape , I'd be up for a swap . Mine isn't perfect and the one that came with the car is nice , but not for a smogged out 72. Just a thought ... PM me if you're interested. Have a great weekend , Kevin.:beer

Here are some pics of the paint process. Just in case anybody is looking. Car had two coats of red on it, but very little bondo or filler, so that is good. We have bad rust around the rear window from where the vinyl top was.

We pieced this hood together from our regular hood and a cut out scoop portion from a rusted out GS hood. Coming along great.

Very nice project you have going on. It's great you can do something like this with your son. Look forward to seeing the end result of all your money, blood, sweat, and tears!

I put the 455 in my car at my dad's farm in his shop. An old school friend of mine was helping me with it and we had just gotten the engine running when my dad showed up. He's a gruff intimidating old cowboy and isn't rattled by much. Anyway, he came into the shop and was standing by the car checking things out. The exhaust wasn't connected and I fired up the car for him. It was pretty loud being on a concrete floor in a steel building. I let it run for 30 seconds or so and then gave the gas pedal just a little tap. Well, when that 455 barked at him my dad's feet actually left the ground!!! My friend and I restrained ourselves until he walked out, and then bust our guts laughing. I don't think I had ever scared him before!!!! lol

That's funny. We fired this 350 up with open headers in the building, and it sounded great. Now with Flowmasters, my son thinks it is way too quiet.

Thanks for all the comments folks. It is getting close now. Should be seeing paint by next week.

    More pics.

Doors, trunk, spoiler are painted. Main body is being painted tonight, and the fenders and hood will be finished next. Then we put it together and paint the GSX stripe.

Update, paint is on car now.
