I used to have a website as a favorite for mixing the flame orange color. I cant find it.

What is the correct way to mix a correct flame orange paint???

    Troy,
I would recommend having it mixed in R-M Diamont b/c. They have a formula for it which I believe is supposed to be a pretty good match.

    Thanks!

    Tim,
Sorry, here go a series of stupid questions.
    What is R-M Diamont?
Is this a company or a paint type?

    Thanks
    Troy

My car was painted in PPG Deltron 2000. Apparently they never offered the color in that stuff but after I sent them packing three times to get the correct color mixed (based on my unfaded paint on some areas of the car), its now on the list with the higher quality paint.

Every batch will be different, a good paint place will have a spectograph to match paint on the car...(I think you mentioned it was for touchups?)

I had an exact match to the paint on my car with PPG Delstar DAR 2450 SC
Flame Orange Poly - couldn;t ahve been happier with the match. I had the parade boot painted.

Hi Keith, thats funny, I think that was the first thing they tried (sounds familiar) and was not even close on my car !! :Dou: But of course they mix it up so maybe their first shot was a mistake, and then tried to correct from there. And factory paint is different too depending on whihc plant, etc.

Cool car, was the orange a special order on the big cars in 72? It looks excellent in that color...verts should be fun colors!

    color

yes, it was a special order on the big cars. I had my car next to an original Flame Orange Sun Coupe this summer and the color match is excellent.

Keith, did you have the extensions painted as well? Or did you drill them for the trim?

    Ugly story there

Well, I started out drilling them, and even after doing the ones on the red car and screwing up one of those, I screwed up the first one I drilled. So I took the drilled ones off the red car and had them painted, and had the one good orange one, and my one spare painted red. I hope I never have to drill another on of these )#(^&@$)(^# again. I only wish I knew how many Buick dealers screwed up in 1972, then I wouldn't feel so bad. I still have an NOS set of ends though, just in case.

    Troy,
R-M is one of the oldest automotive paint companies. In fact they actually invented metallic paint. Diamont is the name of their basecoat paint line.
The nice thing with R-M is they offer nearly all of the old colors in basecoat.
PPG and DuPont usually only have the colors in acrylic enamel.
