What colors are the 1972 GS grille supposed to be? My students are restoring one and we need to know what to paint and where. Any pics would be great! Thanks, Fred
I think if you do a search you will find this has been beat to death many times and all the info you need (and then some) will be there without having to wait for everyone to reply... later Tim
Sorry, being a newbie, I did not realize this has been "beaten to death", as I think probably every subject probably has been. I'll check the archives and see what's there. Thanks.
Perhaps not a great choice of words on my part, and it was meant in a good way, often a search will get you the results you need real fast. Some topics like grille colors, grille and bumper interchange, hood interchange, scoops, colors, wheels etc seem to come up about once a week!! Of course you didn't know that, I apologize if I came across harsh, not meant at all...we are all here to try and help each other out. So how come there were no GS's around when I was rstoring a car in shop class??LOL Lucky sods... Later Tim
No offense taken, Tim, but thanks. I went to the archives and there seems to be a controversy regarding whether the grill is black with light argent trim or dark argent with light argent trim. At least on that thread the controversy was not settled. When we got our grille, it was flat black all over, obviously not original. We have a semi-gloss black on it now, but only as a base coat unless semi-gloss black with argent is correct. It actually looks good, but we want to get it right.
All the grilles I have seen certainly looked black..the upper surfaces may have looked like dark, dark silver or argent but if you looked underneath it was definitely black. Not saying they were all like that, but that is my experience with three GS grilles from 72 in various condition, but none repainted that I could tell. The great advantage with Buicks is that very few people actually know much about them, so the ones that do and might think its wrong will understand why... Heres my best shot at it..... later tim
Well, Tim, right or wrong, it sure looks great! I think we should follow that example. Thanks bunches.
