Ok, been a while since I posted. Anyway, had a new vinyl top installed due to rust under the top and also because whoevever replaced it last time put a lot of GOO near the drip rails.

Well now since the top is installed correctly(meaning the vinyl goes over the drip rail edge) the stainless drip rails will not fit. Not even close!! Can not get the trim to go over the top to catch underneath.

Is there a different drip rail needed and if so who makes and if not does anyone have any for a vinyl top.

    Thanks

I tried the repop pieces from TPP. They didn't work out.

Thanks for the info about TPP. I am going to tackle it again tommorrow. Found a post about using grease or lubricant to see if it helps. In the interim I will be watching this post to see if there is a difference. FWIW the top was purchased from Legendary, but I had always had luck with there stuff.

The vinyl top on my 72 Skylark did NOT go over the rails themselves, but up the inside wall up TO the rail lip, not over the top. The top itself MAY have been replaced prior to my taking ownership.

My 72 chassis book shows that it does and that is how the guy installed it. I did trim it flush to the top of the rail and still have issues.

Bear in mind that the original vinyl that was used was very thin. it didn't have the white fuzzy material on the back.

Jason, I have the new Legendary vinyl and there is no fuzzy material in the back of it. It supposed (so there ad rep said) to be the most original yet as opposed to there "older" versions which have the fuzzy on the back. My other top that I had removed which was replaced by the previous owner had the fuzzy on the back and I am guessing that is why he had put that goop in there between the rail and the top(looked like heck but that the way it was when I bought the car 18 yrs ago)

Bout all you can do is trim it flush by using a razor blade and Vaseline up the lower ledge. They can be a pita

I'm going to guess when they put the fuzzy vinyl top on they replaced the moldings with non vinyl top moldings because the vinyl top molding were loose. Now you need to find vinyl top moldings. The vinyl should end in the middle of the rail under the moldings.

They are a pain in the ass for sure, I cringed every time I had to re-install the trim:eek2:
What you can check is the underside of the driprail, theres a small "lip" that's suppose to catch and retain the bottom edge of the molding, the molding is suppose to lightly snap over that tiny lip, check that the underside of the drip rail doesn't have a build up of goop/top glue, or paint.
    Something to look at:TU:
