Looking to see if anyone in Oregon or Washington has a good gas tank they are willing to part with. Thanks
Andrew, You should really consider getting the Spectra tank that Brian mentions. Your nice car deserves it. I just recently bought a new Spectra gas tank for one of our Pontiacs. The Spectra gas tank is exactly like the original tank. They are inexpensive and look really nice after installation. No original tank will be able to be cleaned up to look as fresh for a restored car. Plus there's no worry about the condition of the inside of a 50-year-old gas tank. I bought this latest tank from Rock Auto and it was only $138.79 plus tax and only $12.99 for shipping. The same tank from other sources, including the manufacturer, was more expensive and also would have involved very high shipping costs (manufacturer wanted to charge me $150 for shipping!!!). I checked and could not find any other source that could come close to the total delivered price of RockAuto.com. There are other brands of gas tanks on the market besides Spectra, but they usually look different or sometimes do not fit correctly. Some are selling steel tanks that are painted silver rather than having the correct coating like the originals so be aware. This is how it is shipped and I'm amazed that it doesn't get damaged.
I appreciate your detailed information and pictures. I may end up just going this route because it is proving to not be easy to get an original gas tank where I’m located. Is the tank made by spectra galvanized?
