There is a jumper used to connect the cluster harness to the factory GS gauges. Does anyone have the the pin for pin swap needed to convert the standard harness to the GS configuration? Thanks Dave

I think some of the wiring companies make the jumper. MAybe try M+H or Factoy Fit. You can also push out the wires with a small screwdriver and change the order in the plastic retainer I believe. I did this in a friends 442. There is a little catch inside you need to push on each metal end. Don't just push or pull or wires will break.

    Go to: www.buickperformance.com
George N's site has an article about this swap. Included is the wiring config. changes in your existing harness that you can easily do.

This was a great help for me. I have been looking for the wiring config and the buick performance link is exactly what I needed. I am not extremely technical so I do have a couple more questions that maybe somebody can answer on this. I received 2 sensors that (I think) need to replace the old stock ones for temp and oil. I have attached a picture of the sensors.

The one on the left I think is the temp which will replace the stock one next to the thermostat housing on the intake manifold. The stock wire is green. The only other thing is that the top has a round "terminal" rather than a flat push on tab. If I replace the connector on the wire with a round push on tab will this work?

The one in the picture on the right I think is for the oil pressure located just above/next to the oil filter. The stock wire there is blue. does the sensor on the right appear to be the right one to replace the one next to the oil filter? The strange thing is the replacement sensor in the picture on the right has green paint on it (the temp wire is green) so is this just a coincidance? or do I have the sensors mixed up?

    thanks for any input.

When you get the sensor for the gage pack set-up...the water temp sensor like the one you have pictured is supposed to come with the correct wire socket......it is grooved so it fits over/onto the "button".
The regular idiot light sensor is a blade and uses a regular wiring socket/plug.
You can groove your idiot light socket using a dremel tool to fit the button top sending unit.

The oil pressure unit you have is correct for the gage pack.

    thanks.

I did the swap back in 2000. It was simple, like the others said it involves moving a few of the wires around in the harness plug. The hardest part is releasing the pins from the plug. I may have used the diagram in my 70 service manual. Im sure someone here will have the tech link. if not PM me, Ill pull the big book and look it up.

Don't forget about the green wire for temp. Dk. green under the column at the ignition switch.
The idiot light wiring is set-up to do a self test when the key is in START position. Lets driver know the warning lamps are indeed working by briefly illuminating them.
When changing to gauges, the same set-up will spike that gauge to full deflection for a second or two.
If you have access to a Chassis Manual look at DWG. 120-42. 12V sourced to the light bulb from both the ignition switch & the water temp. switch.
Dwg. 120-43 shows a direct path from temp. sender to the gauge.
Leaving the path intact from sender to gauge, cut & cap the dk. green coming from the ignition switch.

Great thanks. I just realized that the car I am doing now has a "fasten seat belt" light and the gauge does not of course. I haven't taken the dash apart yet.... is that just a separate wire I can leave disconnected? thanks

Not sure how the "seatbelt" light was switched. Briefly lit when start up or on until the belt was fastened?
This will need a '72 wiring diagram to verify.
