Hey! Newbie to Buick (ok, GM in general) here and will probably be acquiring a '72 skylark ragtop in the next few weeks... It's a Custom model with manual steering and brakes, both of which I want to swap for their powered counterparts. For the steering at least, can anyone outline what basic pieces I need to install the p/s? I'm guessing I'd need the correct crank pulley, pump brackets and all mounting hardware for the pump and gearbox. What about a steering column though - are manual columns different from p/s? I presume I'd need a new box coupler. If anyone has a jpg they can email me showing the underhood setup that'd be great! Many thanks for any help!
If you want to change over to power steering, I have a complete setup for a 1972 Skylark - power steering pump, steering box with pitman arm and bracket that holds pump on but it is for a california car that is suppose to hold an air pump for $60.00 + shipping and includes all the bolts.
If you want a good example of what you will need, I'd do two things. Jump on Carl's deal and go to a local wrecking yard with your camera to take lot's of pics, from lots of angles to see just how it all fits together. I can tell you that if Carl's stuff isn't junk, and I am quite sure it isn't as we don't do stuff like that to each other on this board, you would be getting a SCREAMING deal. Just the steering box alone will probably run that much from the wrecking yard. As for the rest of your questions, Someone here has the exact answer you need I am sure.
70sgeek, I take it your not interested in what I have. Let me know so I can offer to someone else or sell on ebay.
Hi! actually I am - just haven't been able to get back to the keyboard until now. if you'll email your address info and shipping to 33511, I can follow up next week. I (hopefully) finalize the deal on the car tomorrow... thanks for the patience!
