Even if it weren't one of one, it sure is now! Congrats on receiving such a prized Buick!

I agree on collecting whatever I can find along the way, and if I found a grill emblem I would probably at least stick that on there. In the meantime I can fend off the "car show experts"

I'll at least wash it, and a buffing/waxing is pretty high on the list too, but before all that I have to fix a fuel leak - the rear bowl of the carb is dripping fuel at a good rate....it's definetely not gonna shine up if it's all burned to the ground!

Runs very choppy and doesnt want to idle, but no mechanical noise and big oil pressure at idle -40 lbs cold, and goes up to 80 with some revs, doesnt move much when the oil warms - I'll take a compression test and check timing once it's not a fireball waiting to happen.

I was high bidder first time thru Ebay, but didn`t make reserve. I was second the next time, congrats Rhett. Dont find many this rare and so well documented and untouched.
I noticed the missing blackout, etc but assumed the car had been involved in a front end collision at some point. If you dont find any evidence of repair as you clean up the car, personally, I would leave the car as Buick built it. To me, it is just as important, if not more important, to document exceptions to the norm as it is to document the expected. Your car is a rare opportunity to lend legitimacy to those exceptions. Just my opinion... Have fun!

And speaking of e-bay, I was surprised to find a grill emblem so quick..10 bucks!

Does anyone know what they used for a retainer plate onthe back side? I was going to just use a piece sheetmetal, cut and bent as needed.

Now for the headlight doors and grille... just in case I change my mind.

No backing plate as I remember when you find that GS grille it will have the spot for the emblem. Timing is way off I sold a NOS grille and emblem for 100 on here a while back. To make sure get a hold of Phil Roitman he has a couple original cars:)

Yeah I have mine off with the backing metal plate...I'll take a picture of it for you when I go home this weekend.

Good job on scoring that though! I tried buying a NOS one off ebay a month ago but was outbidded at like 45 dollars or something.

Was very surprised to find it, especially the first time I looked... I'm all ears if the guy who has the grille is looking to unload it

Appreciate the backing plate shot..I assume it's not some crazy configuration and can be fabricated without too much effort...

Phil was I correct that the Gran Sport emblem doesn't have a backing plate on a GS grille? Its been a while since I had mine

Here's the emblem that came off my grille. I also had a 455 emblem above it which came from the factory. There no way tthese emblems were ever off before, so I'm sure this backing piece of steel is from the factory.

    Anthony -

thanks for posting the photos of the backing bracket - looking at the back of my grille I cant see the need for the bump in the middle, maybe thats to clear something that exists on the Gran Sport grill only.. looks like I'll get away with using a piece of flat stock..

Phil - I'll take you up on the grill offer, if you can wait until summer.. trying to just spend the money on getting everything I've got working and running right first.. rebuilding the carb, plugs, cap, wires, trans leak and wheel cylinders, etc..gonna keep the switch pitch in until it's running and registered and I've had a chance to bring it up to Lebanon Valley just to see what it will run with an auto. After that, the 4 speed goes back in...

thanks again for everyones input and encouragement...
