anyone know how all the vaccum lines are suposed to be hooked up on the 4bbl? i don't think the vaccum advance is on right, and i can't get the secondaries to open. can anyone help?

the vacuum port on the back attaches to the vacuum resevior, the big one on the bottem of the front goes to the pcv valve. Now I've heard motors with egr run better with ported vacuum for the vacuum advance, so use the lower right fitting on the front to run to the distributer (your right, looking at the carb from the front). I'm not to familiar with the egr engines but I assume the valve uses manifold vacuum to regulate itself, so run the egr valve to the upper left port. thats mostly how I have it hooked up on mine, but maybe someone else knows a better way.
Anyways, that should help you out some.

When you say you can't get the secondaries to open, do you mean the throttle blades at the bottom of the carb, or the air valves won't open?

ya the throttle blades at the bottom.

I recently had the same problem but was able to fix it. What I did was take the linkage between the primaries and secondaries on the drivers side, I removed the little clip that holds it to the primary shaft and removed it from there but I still left it attached to the secondary throttle shaft. Then I lifted the free end back towards the firewall until the secondaries were fully open then gently pushed a little more to bend the rod. Hook it back up to the primary, pull back on the throttle, and see if they fully open now. If not, then repeat and bend it a little more. I sorta thought of this as a last ditch effort to get my carb linkages working right, so I don't know if it'll work for you or not, but it shouldn't hurt to try.

ok i did that, but now when thay open it just sprays gas out the top of the carb.

hmmm... never had that happen to me. Where exactly is the gas coming from? Are the gaskets and stuff in good shape? It helps to look for simple stuff first... I can't really think of how the secondaries would cause gas to spray out the top unless there was something else wrong
