The auction is now over, but i was bidding on this 76 short block. The guy lives in columbus which is just a stones through from where I live. Anyway, i put in a max bid a 110 bucks. The reserves wasnt met, so I emailed the guy and asked if he would take 100 bucks cash and Id be there the next day to get it. Well i got a reply back saying he wouldnt take no less than 200. Is that way to much for a 76 455 short block, or am I just a cheap skate with my $100 offer? LINK
I bid to about the same amount as you but you are closer. There are definately more than $200 worth of parts if the rust is not too bad. If you live locally go look at it to determine the extent of the rust on this. The heads and intake that are missing are throw away parts anyway, you might as well consider this the same as a complete 75-76 455 for value. A side note, the 12 bolt rear that he has that sells today is the only real good buy that he had and no reserve. I won't drive down for just the rear though.
i think its a lil on the high side.... for an uncleaned/hot tanked short block. if it had already been through its paces at the machine shop 200 isnt bad. btw, I also live close to columbus... finding buick stuff around here is fun. isnt it??
It would be a little high in my area.Can buy complete non running 455's for $250 and running ones for $350.You have to pull them at that price.
Finding parts is fun around here, the past two motors I've got around here, i got decent deals on. Picked up a 72 motor and 400 tranny for 250 for the both... then at a junk yard on the south side.... i scored complete 69 430 motor and 400 tranny for 150 bucks.
