I just pulled the engine and trany out of a 78 lasabre and am putting it in a 84 Cutlass with a dead 231. I have never driven a car with a 350 buick engine so have no clue as what to expect. Wil be using the th350 and a 3.42 posi out of an S-10 it runs smooth as silk we started it up after 4 years and it idled so quiet we couldnt hear it. Is this going to be a sled or will i be a happy camper It is for my wife so not looking for a 13 sec performing beast but she does like to spin the tires now and again. I didnt know that they came in dark blue but she likes the engine color:laugh: main question duals or single exhaust We dont have any testing for smog out here in the sticks

  2. Run dual exhaust and a 4 barrel if there's only a 2bbl on it now. That engine will be pretty low compression, in 78, but should offer plenty of torque for your wife to enjoy. The later 350/455 engines were painted blue from the factory. Not sure what year they changed from Buick red, but mid-70's or so.

Sounds like a good swap! Put a 4 barrel intake as David said and have fun. If I remember the h.p. was around 155 or so for that year, no biggie tho, its got alot more torque than the N.A 3.8!!
One word of caution tho, if the 350 trans is original to the V-6, they used one less clutch in the clutch packs of the 350 trannys that were behind the V-6's.
Buick engines were red thru 1974. 75 and 76 they were metallic blue/aqua color. 77 till the end they were a solid light blue, almost a corporate color by then. Mark

    darn corp light blue, yuk.

I need to exhaust my 80 wagon but on a DIY budget. [I have a good welder and a pipe bender]

Would you keep the stock Y pipe and run duals from there or cut the Y and then put in a H or X pipe?

Right now its all stock with a gutted cat and a cherry bomb. But its a full exhaust and is very quiet compared to my all stock system on my V6 Firebird.

I know theres a company that makes crossmembers for G body cars with cut outs for duals, just cant remember who:mad: Duals with at least an H-pipe, or the X-pipe would be even better. Mark

Yea, them darn clearnce issues. I guess I could run them side by side down the stock side and run a tight x pipe. I have that funky valve in the left side exhaust too that I want to remove. I have it wired open but still it can't be helping any.

Make sure to check if the tranny is a T350 or T250 trans. The T250 looks Identical to the T350 except the T250 has a second gear band it will have a band adjustment near the trans dipstick tube... The T250 will work. Just make sure which trans you have:beer
