I bought a 70 3:64 rear end complete except the guy took the bearings out and tossed them. Anyone have part numbers for the side bearings ( they are 2 different sizes on these ) and maybe the pinion bearings too? Thanks! JKC
Side; races- LM501314 bearing- LM501349 Pinion; races- small, M86610 big, HM89410 bearings, small, M86649 big, HM89449 PS, I'm finding more and more time each day....I'll call on those pics :TU: Guy
Sorry John- These bearings and races came with a kit that Dave Johnson gave to me for rebuilding an 8.2...apparently the bearings are wrong even though every thing else looks to be correct
'68-70 BUICK 8.2 10 bolt Carrier bearings: LH LM603049 (bearing) LM603012(race)... together known as Set 23 RH LM501349 (bearing) LM501314(race)... together known as Set 13 An easy way to remember, is driver side takes 12 bolt Chevy sized bearing & race & passenger side takes typical 8.2 10 bolt bearing & race. OTHER DIFFERENCE: Pinion bearings... The BIG pinion bearing & race are M804049 & M804010, not same as "normal" 8.2. Together known as Set 35. Small, ie, front pinion bearing is same M869649A & M86610 as previous 8.2 10 bolt (together known as Set 9) Got Posi? :3gears: Roger
THAT'S the info I am looking for. Thanks! Seems like Guy is right on standard 8.2s that the side bearings are the same. I always thought that the 70 4 spider gear rears only had the different size side bearings. Learn something new every day! Now my guess is that the 4 spider gear rears from 68-70 are the same and I bet that the medium duty rear from those years has the same size side bearings. Guy, find me those photos!! :bglasses:
My original rear from the Reynolds car has the two different size side bearings...the bearing "kit" is wrong. I'm on those pics :TU:
There was no medium duty 10 bolt with same sized carrier bearing used in '68-70 Buick Skylarks. Most '68-70 Buicks A-bodys received the '68-70 BUICK 8.2. The few that ddin't get the new improved BUICK 8.2, received a form of c-clip 12 bolt rearend. Mckinnion cast & assembled 12 bolts were installed in Oshawa built Buick & Olds A-bodys, along with a few A-bodys in '70 out of the Framingham plant. These will not have an easy to read date in the lwr rh webbing. Pontiac was the only GM division to keep using the 27 spline pinion 8.2 componets that were shared between the early BOP A-bodys. Pontiac beefed up their strongest 8.2's for '67, & changed the 8.2 gearset to LH thead ring gear bolts in late '69. Got Posi? :3gears: Roger
