There is no NJ rear code LB would be open end 293, LB would be 293 posi.

It also has the deep stage-1 style fuel pump. It had a factory style hitch. I talked to the original owner today, I will have to call back and ask if the hitch was installed when new, he owned the cat until last year. Almost everything on this car is original, even the spare tire.

ok found this... If that lettering was found on the back side (facing the back of the car) on the driver side back of axle tube it is likely a PONTIAC rear end WD from 1967 - 1969 era will be 2.93 open carrier. YD 67-68 and XD in 69 will be the POSI version... so you might be missing the front letter of the code.
More pics of the rear cover casting etc.

The POP is strange and so is the rear stamp.
The car is really original, I talked with the original owner and the rear axle is original to the car. It is a flint car build 4 B. Non F41, Non posi.
    I will get more pictures

When was your car built? You can check that with the casting and finish date of that rear,to see if they make sense. I’ve had some other 70 Skylark rears that had codes that did not exist. Do you have more pictures of the rearend?

That’s a 1970 Buick 8.2” for sure,so it’s likely original to the car. As I mentioned before,I’ve had some 70 Buick 8.2’s that had unknown codes on them as well. I assume you haven’t pulled the cover yet to see what is truly hiding inside? I was cast on April Fools Day,1970,and finished on the 103rd day, which is around April 13th.

WOW... THAT IS TRULY FUNNY I have seen other rears on April fools Day... As Brian said it is a 8.25 which will be hard to get parts as it was a 3 year rear only 68 69 70 BUICK only
Big carrier bearing on the driver-side and very larger inner pinion bearing 1.875.
I do make posi units for 2.73 2.93 ratio

Just weird, it should be LB or ME or MA something like that( all 2.93 in the manual ) Just D is nothing.... in Buick.

At this point, you need to pull the cover and see exactly what is in there to know for sure.
