Would anybody like to have new gear sets for a 9 and 3/8 rear end? reason why I ask is because I talked to Brad at Fab Craft Metal Works in Tx. he said he can make a pinion gear right now but not the ring rear. he would have to make a tool set and all that. he said it he had enough people call and request a set then maybe he would be willing to cut some gears for us. Call Brad at 817-421-0242. he said if enought people called that maybe we could ge something rolling on this. Tell him that you talked to Croy Harris. he is a very good guy to talk to.

Well... a new ring and pinion will do ZERO good because we can't get the crush collar.

Interested in making those as well?????? Just an FYI, the corporate rears collars are long, where ours are short, much like a wedding band.

OK, here is my dumb question of the day. If the crush sleeve sets the pinion depth on the rearend as it gets tightened, what would stop you from using a machined shim the same O.D. & I.D. as the crush sleeve and re-using the old one?

The crush sleeve only provides bearing preload. Pinion depth is set with a shim behind the pressed on rear pinion bearing.

The older 9 3/6ths. are set-up with spacers & NOT a crush collar. I have used shims in the past to get rid of the crush collar.

OK, but would the shim work anyway, since you will be applying the preload to the crush sleeve & shim again as it is being tightened?

Oops! I obviously need to type faster or I would have read the post before this one and skipped this question.

Even getting past the pinion preload issue, I thought the 66-70 and 71-75 pinion lengths are different. As I understood from awhile back, the longer one may fit with an adapter in the shorter application, but not the other way around. So having the sets made the right way could benefit both parties. I'd like to go up to a 3.90 to 4.10 with a 4L80E trans. My application would be the 71-75 design.

I will check the year they started using the crush collar instead of the shims. I have used shims in place of the crush collar many times.
