Stopped at a local used car lot today to look it over:

32000 miles, 6 speed manual trans, cloth seats, excellent condition, modified exhaust but otherwise stock, flame red with black top and black interior with red inserts on the seats. Price started at $12900 or so, came down to $11500 as I looked it over. Salesman said car is on consignment from a friend of the dealer.

I would drive it Spring thru Fall, up to 15000 miles per year, mostly highway. Any opinions here from owners or former owners of Camaros of this vintage as to the good, bad and ugly of this model? :Do No:

My thoughts exactly, you could get an LS1 car for that amount.

Mind you the LS1 car will just be a reasonable car for the asking price, but the LT1 might be a show car thats very well taken care of for that price.

Haven't started haggling price yet--it will have to come down significantly if it's going to follow me home!

Right now just would like to know anyone's hands-on experience with this generation Z28. The LT1 has a good rep for longevity but that's about all I know at this point.

I cant speak for the rest of the car, but i know the transmission is pretty well bullet proof.

It would take alot of neglect to ruin any parts.

As for the engine, yes the LT1 is pretty reliable. Its basically the latest version of the "Gen1" SBC before they redesigned it to be the LS1. It can make some decent power too.

Judging by the mileage on some of these cars (all 220 000 KMS) that are for sale, i think its a nice driver.

first thing you learn about a car salesman:they start lying when they open their mouth

car probably came from a repo auction for all that salesman know

it sounds like a fun car,and the mileage is low,but that car is 15 years old and it's a 6 speed.

it's a stripper Z ragtop with no leather

it's not worth anywhere near what they are asking.i bet they don't have over $ 4000 in it

offer them $7500 drive out.leave your number, and walk away.

if they want your money, they will call you

I agree that it's not worth nearly what they are asking. In super nice condition, that's a $7k car all day long. Unless there is something particularly special about this car, then you'll be better off searching CL for awhile.

That car is common enough that you can pick your options and color, then go searching and find what you really want.

I'm been looking over those cars myself recently but have decided on the 1998-02 body style... unless I go with 1978-81

My wife just bought a few months ago a 93 Z28 LT1 6 speed. got it from the original owner with 43000 Kilomters on it .
I can't tell you a lot as we are just learning about these 4th gen camaros as well.
I can tell you that the 93 opti spark system failed on them due to the water pump failing on them and leaking and taking out the opti spark.
That was and can be resolved with a upgraded pump if it has not been done already.
I think by 95 96 that was solved so that car it may not be an issue.

    Check out

    www.camaros.net

the forum has a 4th gen link among others . they will answer all you need to know.
I can say the car is a blast , that LT1 is sweat as well the 6 speed . what a smooth gear box. we have 3000 kilometers on it , drove it to the cottage , she drives it to work every day
She wanted a LS1 but that was not in her budget.

I have a 96 z28 hard top. I love that car, but 11k is way too much money for one. You can get a nice 2002 z28 or ss for similar money. That being said, they're really fun cars to drive. Maintainence is a bit of an issue, as it will be the hardest spark plug/plug wire change of your life (It took me about a week and a half, no joke). I know for certain that 96 models have the vented optispark that solved the issue, but i'm not sure about 95.
