I'm positive all these questions have been answered in various places but I haven't had luck locating them all... maybe I'm just tired.

I've been reading over the 455/Th400 swap pages and stuff so I'm getting relatively comfortable with the theory behind the action... but I do have a couple questions.

I know my TH350 will hold behind a stock early 455 so long as its in good condition now (and it is, shifts very firmly and I'll add a seperate tranny cooler), but with the money slowly creeping up to purchase a running 455 I'm getting more and more antsy.

I've got my 8.2" non-posi 10 bolt, will this hold up against a stock 455 assuming I don't run slicks or anything? I wouldn't have the money for the new rear for a while, so I'd probably just hold off on purchasing the 455 as well if the case is that it won't hold... and I know (or assume) my 2 piece driveshaft won't be any good.

    ... but I really want the 455.

I'd be looking at 70-72 455s... just for the extra performance from the stock motor. I know I'd probably be safer with a 73 and later 455 but...

All opinions are welcome... it should be within a few weeks that I'll be able to afford the 455, unless something drastic happens...

    Thanks for your time...

Engine problems are nagging me, so its either a hi-po 350 or the 455 when the money arrives... I'd rather get the 455 to get my transformation started.

Eric, there are plenty of people running a lot more power than you are talking with an 8.2. I would not worry about it to much. I always said I would not replace a rear until I broke mine. Just my opinion. As for the 455 prices you should be able to get a solid running engine for under $500. My brother ( Toddd69GS ) picked up a good running 72 455 out of a Riv for $350. It was complete and had a fresh Q-jet on it, which runs great on my GS by the way. Just keep your eyes peeled.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply, I think I just needed someone to say "yes it will be ok" for my mind to be at ease. I know catching a good running 455 deal is very possible... like the ones in the parts for sale section for everything from 450-800 ... I'm anxious, but after paying off the other bills Im a bit short this week... should be with in 2 or 3 though
