    Ok, now dont laugh..
My 89 S10 has one of those mechanical trip odometers whereas you have to push that button to reset. I use it to monitor my distance traveled between fuel fill ups as I dont trust the guage. Its a real bear to reset to zero- I have to push it several times for it to reset to zero. Well about a dozen times this has happened- both while driving or when I get into the truck first thing- the trip odometer is reset to zero! Now when I do it manually I can never get the three zeros to line up. When it resets on it's own, the zeroes are pefectly lined up. The first time I noticed this was after going out for lunch (no alcohol haha) and when I got back in to my truck it was reset. Several times while driving I'll glance down and it will have just reset and be at 002 etc. Yesterday, I picked up my mom to have over for dinner and when I got back into the truck after loading her up I glanced down and yep- 000. It starts counting back up normally. I'll reset it and the zeros will never line up! How do these work-are they always under spring tension and does a bump somehow cause it to reset?? I've banged the dash with no results. I'm beginning to think my dearly departed dad is playing tricks on me!

It remembers how many times you have pushed it and randommly resets additional times accordingly. LOL

haha. Well, we went on a bit of a trip today and I got fuel. I tried to reset it and there was no way I could get it to reset to 0. It stopped at something like 124. Anyway, about 45 minutes later I glanced down at it and it had reset-perfectly lined up zeros. It was at 002 when I looked at it... veddy veddy skeddy...

It's trying to get you to walk more (getting gas after it resets and you don't remember what it was), it just wants to be put out of it's misery!
