Our Carriers are pretty advanced, have a hard time believing it could confuse a lighthouse for a ship.

24 yeras flying Canadian naval aircraft - including helo's and operating with a NATO navies - I've heard all kinds of variations of this yarn.
The "transcript" does not contain any naval radio procedure - that would be used -
A Carrier always has task force with it and various picket ships are responsable for surface, subsurface, and air control the carrier would not be talking direct to another ship. and would never transmit the composition of a force at sea.
I can see A Newfie light house keeper, if they actually sat radio watch having that kind of humour (they have been unmanned and automated, since well before 95)

    Rob,
I was a kid at Greenwood '69-'72. RCAF was flying the Argus at the time.
Remember a Lancaster beside the runway.
Saw an Argus beside the runway in Summerside couple years ago.
    Replaced by the Aurora......I think.
What are they flying these days?

The Aurora is flying, Half of what used to be the Canex mall is now a flight museum. I thing you when left in 72 the Canex was still in the small building ontop of the hill - which first became the libray and is now VPI Headquarters.

The Argus, Neptune , Lancaster plus a couple new additions have been moved from beside the parade square (the Old Gym and most of the Argus Hangers are gone replaced by new ones on the other side of the airfeild. to around the parking lot - a replica of the original tower now stands ontop the hill where the ball field was, and part of the hill is memorial garden.

lots of changes to the village to - the mall has expanded and there's two stop lights. The new PMQs have been torn down, and lots of new stores along central ave. The Aurora's replaced the Argus and are still being flown. Still doing fisheries and IceEx flights out of Torbay

I work in N.S. occasionally. Drive right by Greenwood on the way to somewhere else. Think next time I'll stop in & have a look around.
RCAF day would get the kids - me- up in an Argus for a scenic tour of the country side.
PMQ's were not new when I was there. Kiltie Court area.
I do remember a couple things. Argus Lounge for a meal about 1-2 times a year.
Outdoor swimming pool at the main gate area.

I have many memories of Greenwood too, having grown up in Berwick which is about 12 miles away.I remember the annual "Air Force Day" as a kid.A Tiger Moth was doing an aerobatic loop 400 feet in front of me and nosed in killing the two in the plane.Traumatic for a 10 year old.The Argus aircraft were cool-supposedly the highest HP gas powered piston engines in the air at the time.Sounded like AA Fuelers. The Auroras are transformed Lockheed Electras.I remember when service personnel went to Pasadena California for extended periods of time for training when the planes were new.I also recall the dances at the Rec Centre as a teen!

We kinda hijacked this thread and turned into - Greenwood memories one
here's the Airforce main page - you link to 14 Wing Greenwood, CAF aircraft etc from here
    http://www.airforce.forces.gc.ca/v2/index-eng.asp
Even get the news on the aurora missions over Libya - I cant believe they are posting this http://www.cefcom.forces.gc.ca/pa-ap/fs-ev/2011/10/04-eng.asp
You would never see this kind of info in my days, all MPA Ops were secret (and still should be ) - as you Argus era guys know (especially if your dads were aircrew) - We just called usually in the middle of the night and disappeared for weeks at time.
The modern electronic info age - advertise to the other side what you doing -- so the public can feel good about where their money is going - until it gets one of planes shot down.

    Rob,
Sorta hi-jacked it but the Argus was a Maritime patrol craft, Cold War era, used in conjunction with the lighthouses.
Next time in the valley I'll track you down.
