I'm lookin into getting some serious body work done on my 72 GsX clone. My deal is ... I have some serious rust.... Rust over the wheel wells that goes through on some spots... cancerous rust on the trunk. Rust on the rear window sides.... water comes in on the inside when I turn corners on a wet day... it feels "damp" alot inside.

What should my first steps be? Should I paint first. If so should I just get them to weld or bondo... can you even use bondo on that problem? I'm thinking no...?

Also does anyone out there have any good pics of an old Skylark (pref around 70-72) with a "different" paint job besides the classic GS GsX style?

    Thanks! :3gears:

if it were me, i'd get new quarters and have them welded in. i'd also get a new decklid. how are the rocker panels and lower fenders? i would also replace these if there were signs of serious rust, there are only two ways to git rid of rust for good, cut it out or sell it.

oh, and check out the members rides on the board. these guys are real creative.

Your first step....get lots-o-money. Second step....get lots more money. Then replace all the rusted areas with new metal, don't bondo, you'll regret it if you do. :3gears:

    Good luck.

Wow how did a Texas car get so much rust? My car spent its life in Mass and is not that bad. Like the above guys said replace all with metal and then paint. Find out what color your car is suppose to be by checking data plate and paint it that color. There are enough clone GSX's in the world already and not enough original weird colors like were originally made. Good luck.

You can check Here for some pictures, in addition to browsing the 'Member's Rides' forum on this board.

What's the original color of your car (cowl paint code)?
