Been planning on this for a while, but couldnt decide which way to go. Just stone, or brick or those sacrete frames for individual looking rocks... decided on good old concrete. Local guy is gonna be in and out from inception to completion ready to use. The drive is 50 X 10 with a two foot wide piece of earth next to the garage "A" for my hostas. Back yard will finally start to look finished including a 4 foot wide side entrance for the man door on garage "B". The whole job with a broom finish and sealer is $4300.00. Cant wait to run the snowblower over it instead of dirt!

A million years ago this was all beach on Lake Michigan. 3 inches of some kinda dirt, then sand, and more sand. Depending on rain, should be wrapped up next Monday while I should finish that GD boat around the same time.. ws

Hahahaha! Its just the opposite of a giant vacuum cleaner for sucking up dust  We also have roofing gutters and sump pumps for the basements.:p Today theres a heat advisory as well; its may approach 80*F LOL... ws

That's really sunny along the side of your front garage. The Hostas will also pick up some heat from that garage wall. There are a whole bunch of species of Hostas - some are more sun and heat tolerant then others. Choose wisely. BTW - I sure miss the Hostas that we had in Massachusetts.

We keep our hostas pots so they can be moved around and be brought in . I was just funnin' ya on the snow blower. Just a jab, as it is in the high nineties here and will be for the rest of the summer and well into fall.

No "SWEAT" LOL... I worked on some oil rigs just outside of Dallas. It was like a 200 mile drive from the hotel, just a walk in the park. We'd leave early to beat the heat... It was August.

That sunny garage shot was at 1630hrs yesterday. Usually kinda shady on that side till noon anyway. ws

Everything shut down early today due to the heat Hahaha! Guys were here at 0630hrs dumping stone on the street. Got it roughly graded and packed and will frame and finish grade/pack it tomorrow at 0600hrs. YIKES! Also got the first round of tape off the boat. Turned out hunky-dory. Non-skid is next after rain the next two days. ws

Still plugging along... Concrete guys were here at 0600hrs. Job is ready to pour Monday as they have another couple of jobs going that need finishing. I took off for the boat at 0630 for a rinse and it was hot enough that she was drying right away. A little wiping and it was ready for reverse masking. The deck paint is 15X thicker than regular latex and needs to get troweled on then rolled with a loop roller for texture. Its what all the Americas Cup race boats use. Gonna finish up with all the port side stuff (at the dock side for now) and then flip the boat around for a finish on the starboard side; hopefully on a cloudy day!

Its 1030hrs now and plenty of shade for the hostas! ws

Since they did not put risers on the rebar I hope they plan on using hooks to pull it up when they pour the concrete. It will not do any good on the bottom of the concrete. I would have also put wire mesh down. I have also used fiber mesh in the mix. Must feel good getting it done.....

Risers, screen and fiber mesh?? That's the exact game plan! Sounds like you've been there! After the float job and curing is done the price also includes a sealcoating. The neighbors on either side of me have used this same guy and he is well referred to around these parts. A lot of his stuff is in upper end homes and a lot of custom "fieldstone" masonry. That's actually the one delay for right now, was to get this knocked out and then have to finish several other jobs before this weekend. Theres a city wide showcase of new homes' show this weekend and a few loose ends that needs to get finished. The guy is 72 and a true artisan..
Yes, I cant wait to roll the BAD LAD across the new slab into Winterhaven to start some more work. Gads' its gonna seem sooo civilized, not to mention looking out the kitchen window to see a well manicured back side! ws

Yup. The rebar sitting on the ground may do more harm then good.

Yes we did Decorative stamped concrete and we used super diamond clear.

Was the stamping in a brick pattern? I'm not sure of the brand, but the guy said the sealer was about $150 for a 5 gallon pail. ws

We had a couple of patterns but I thought the best looking was the square stone look.

Yeah... the guy gave me a few options and a choice of dye mixed in at the plant, but for the 4300.00 I just decided on good ol' concrete with a broom finish. Back in Shitcawgo, everything was blacktop and fell apart after a few years. Maybe Ill get to do a burnout on it this fall. Betcha more tire comes off than concrete LOL... Blacktop would be all over the back yard.

Taking bets on BONER being the first dog to test out the finish in "scrunch mode". He already tested out the stone job hahaha.... Hmmm ws

Waiting in the wings for Tuesday A.M. ! Meanwhile, still getting to the detail side of the boat paint job. Port side is done except for stanchion bases and safety wire. Been starting at 0600hrs and finishing by noon. I came to the realization that being retired means being able to take your time! First pic is finished with paint, through the final of masking 1/8" for caulk and a final coat of Epiphanes varnish (7 of 7 !!) for a nice crisp edge. ws

Concrete guys were here at 0545hrs and cement truck showed up at 0615. One hour and 20 minutes it was laid, and have to wait for it to "plasticise" before edging and broom finish. Seal coat and form removal tomorrow. ws

Looking good, I see they are using the rebar hooks (made) to pull the rebar up into the concrete. I bet you are excited, congrats....
