Hi, I am working on our old Ford based class C motorhome. It has a full sized van front end with a 460, its a 1977. The wiring was all hacked up under the dash so I have been fixing that mess. While I was under there I found a black box about 3'' long, 2 1/2" wide, and about 1" deep. It is mounted next to the fuse panel. I have no idea what it is. Any one here have a idea what it does? there are 3 wires cut and I have no idea what they might have been for? I think there are 2 red and one blue wire and as near as I can tell they end up at this box. It is plastic and looks original and plug going to it is from the original harness so I don't think it has anything to do with the add on cruise control. Everything seems to work fine but just wondering what the box is for. Tom

could be a fiber optics box. :Do No:

I know chryslers and gm's had them.

cheap way to light the instrumments with in effect one bulb (in the box) woth a cable going to the back of the instruments (looks like a wire, but it aint)

  3. Can you post a picture and any numbers/legends on the box?

I don't have a easy way to post a pic but I can write down what it says on the box in the morning and post it. I know it says Ford V8 on it for sure with some numbers. Tom

If you have the picture on your computer, www.paintedover.com and you can upload there and they'll even give you the code for it.

Maybe it's got something to do with extra lights for a trailer, or to connect the lights of a car on tow, like you very often see behind motorhomes ?

Im going to venture a guess that it might be for the intermittent wipers (if it has them). I worked on a later model Ford wiper system and found something similar in size that worked the delay. Just a shot in the dark.

Jason, I never thought of that, it does have intermittent wipers I bet that is what it is for. They work yet so the hanging cut off wires must have done something else. There is also a oil pressure switch on the motor just above the oil pressure sending unit with two terminals not hooked to anything. I wonder what that did at one time. Someone said it might have been used to work a solenoid for charging the second battery when motor was running. There are no extra wires or any that are spliced together to bypass this switch anywhere near it. Everything seams to work so I guess its not to important. Thanks for all the help. As far as posting a pic the problem is we don't have a digital camera to get a good picture of it. Tom
