i have a 1968 8.2 rear with 2.93 gears in it. I ordered a Auburn posi with richmond gears and install kit. The problem is the pinion bearing on the old pinion is huge compared to new one. I called jegs and they said I needed to get that bearing from local parts store. Has anyone had this problem? And does anyone have some advice. Thanks../:idea2:

They sold you gears for 65-67 BOP 8.2 cars. The 68-70 Buick 8.2 is different and Richmond gears will not fit as I recall.

Some have been made up by a Board member that will fit but only in 3.42 and maybe 3.64.

You can get the bearing from Oldcar Bearings in Pinehurst nc

What Jim is saying is that the 68-70 Buick 8.2 is NOT THE SAME as the 64-67 BOP 8.2. The Auburn carrier you bought is probably for the 64-67 8.2. It is probably the wrong part. Contact Monzaz on the board. He may be able to help you with a posi unit and gears for the 68-70 8.2

I don't have a current TA catalog, just the Spring 2007. I see differential girdles there. Does TA sell Posi carriers?

I wouldn't be too hard on them. There is an awful lot of confusion about the various 8.2's even on this bulletin board. I removed my original 1970 OO 3.42 8.2 10 bolt before I grenaded it. I replaced it with a built 1971 8.5 10 bolt out of a GS350, for which parts are plentiful and cheap.

I got the PM we are on it. Just the gears are pretty up there in price... THEY do set up perfect and are ALL AMERICAN TRULY The whole process. So even though they are expensive all the moneys goes to the USA economy. :) Jim

    Ragtop 455 Atlanta Driver...

I just looked through the "JDRACE" site, and I have a question or two..
My 1970 Skylark has the factory rear end unit (has never been removed), and I am certain it is a typical 8.2 non posi unit. ( 41:15= 2.73 ratio)
So there is a 2 series carrier and a 3 series carrier...What I would like to know is: my options for this unit... I'd like to have a 3.08 ratio, and a posi unit would be great...
Do I need to get an entire assembly from a 1971-87 GM A-body?
Thanks for any info you can share on this "final frontier" concerning my car.

Contact or PM Monzaz. See what options he has for you. He may have a Posi unit that he can get to work for you.
