Hey Guy's, The new GM compressor I bought about three years ago from Year One now has a leaky front seal. Does anyone know where I can buy another seal before I run the thing out of oil? THanks Bill
A6 seal should be able to get one at NAPA Or anyone who carries 4 seasons a/c parts , you need a couple of special tools and dont handle the seal portion of the ceramic with your fingers . it can ruien it
Thanks for the help I will look I wonder why they always leak from there? I had three remans that all leaked right out of the box then I bought the "New GM" from year one and it lasted about three years. Thanks again
All the old A-6 compressor shaft seals will leak some to lubricate the seal and shaft. There is an updated double-lip seal which will cure the oil loss: http://www.ackits.com/merchant.mvc?...t_Code=21-34659&Category_Code=shaftandgaskets HTH
Make sure you clean the shaft really good where the seal will ride. It needs to be really smooth there. Also, ensure that the front compressor bearing is in good shape and does not have any slop or play. If it does, either replace the bearing (inside the compresor) or go with the ceramic seal and just clean the hood every so often.
I've had very good luck using the double lip seal on A6 compressors. Do a search on the ACKits forum to find the installation procedure, you won't need all of the parts in the kit when doing an A6. You'll need to source the pullers and installers for the clutch and the seal. Be sure to use the seal protector or you WILL damage the new seal.
