How the heck do you get one? I want to get rid of this AC mess and keep the heater for a street 86 Regal. I met some kid with an 87 Regal and he said he purchased his kit off the internet. He couldn't tell me the site..............don't think he was too smart..........he put a 305 rat motor in his Regal. :boring:
David, I had an 81 Regal a few years ago that originally came with a 3.8 and a/c.In the times that the motor was rebuilt(2) by the original owner,it had some a/c parts removed. So,I essentially put a 350 in it to replace the blown again motor.I was thinking of removing my a/c system but it left a huge hole in the firewall.Since I removed as much as I could, the defroster never worked properly. One day at one of the local junkyards,I seen my solution. There was a 80-81 Chevy Malibu(same style of body) with a 4 speed on the floor and it had non air in it too.I went there and tore it all out completely. It is no 15 minute job as you have to rip the whole dash out and use the under dash box that hooks to the firewall, the heater controls as well as the under hood items.Took 5-6 hours to do the total swap but well worth it in the end. There were also 2 vent knobs that were hooked to the lower steering column filler that let you get outside air into the car.I wish I would have been smart enough to have taken the stick stuff out as well...I will look through my limited pics to see if I have any of this car but for some reason I never took many of that car. Pat
Go to the boneyard and find a non-A/C Chevy Malibu. Theres was lots of em built. I'll be looking for one this summer myself.
The non-AC heaterbox will need some trimming to fit, but they are easy to find in the boneyard. Buy at least 2 if this is your first attempt, you'll almost certainly screw up the first one when you try to cut it up to fit. The swap isn't too tough, but all the little bolts and parts are well hidden. Saves about 150lbs though...
Dang, sounds like I'm going to need the whole weekend! uzzled: Here cheby cheby cheby............
summit actually sells a kit where you can install heat in your car and take out the whole box assembly
part numbers if you have a new summit there on page 351 if not the # are flex-a-lite flx-640 or summit version SUM-991101or 991102 or 991105 good luck
Those things are neat!! The Summit ones even come with a duct kit. They're made for Jeeps but I'm sure they can be adapted easily.
i was on another web site dont know which one and the guy modified his glove compartment to make it fit there
