Has anyone purchased molded carpets from "ACC" Auto Custom Carpets for their 1970 GS? I emailed them yesterday inquiring about availability and pricing. They responded today saying that they do not have anything available for "older cars" and suggested to get ahold of a different company in California. I thought several people one this forum have talked about getting their carpets from ACC. At first I thought I had made a typo on the year when I requested information but it reads 1970, so I'm not sure what to think. Thanks in advance.
I've purchased a couple sets from Y-1 that were actually ACC carpets. Mine is a '71 but carpet ould be the same. No problems, good product.
I bought ACC carpet for my Riv 5 years ago. And was NEVER happ with it. the mold was wrinkly and the fit was short on the passenger side by the kick panel. My interior guy just sold me a molded carpet set from someone else. He no longer uses ACC because he said he had too many bad experiences with them. Call my guy, Ron Fryer. Fryers Auto Upholstery. 360-574-8070 http://www.autoupholsterykits.com Ron will set you up. And I think Ken Lisk just last month bought an ACC carpet for his 71 GSX. Mabe the guy at ACC is insane.
Carpet Larry, Get in touch with Mark Reeves at Then & Now Restorations 770-592-4411 or www.carstorations.com Tell him I sent you and he'll hook you up. Excellent quality and a good price. David
Thanks, Steve, Yardley and David. I will look to one of your suggestions. I think I will wait to order until after the holiday package rush. Take care.
Some apparent misfits are due to not using the same thickness pads as original. This causes the carpet to appear short as it has a deeper well to cover. Duane who was in the business used only ACC as I recall.
I read an article that addressed this very problem. What they did was to remove the jute backing from the old carpet and glue that down first. Then install the new carpet over that which helps to fill in the gaps and not come up short on the sides. Also adds to sound deadening and plushness of new carpet. Happy New Year. :Smarty:
Duane wrote that article... Something I wish I read before I installed my carpet. I had a problem of mine not being wide enough to quite get to the edges.
Jim- Did you order the 4-speed carpet or the auto carpet??? I purchased mine through 1AAUTO and when I told them my car had a 4-speed, I specifically asked about fit on the hump and extra slack material due to the carpet being perhaps fit to a Chevelle 4-speed hump. They assured me it would fit correct. I laid it in there and it fits like crap. Way too much slack. I shoulda listened to what others said here and just got the auto carpet (right Duane?). Learn from my mistake, if you have a 4-spd carpet. Mine will be going back for an auto carpet.
ACC Carpets ACC manufactures carpets for older cars. I've seen some great looking carpet and some real S * * T. They even claim to use actual floor mock ups. They have a lot of problems for some reason. I think, and this is my personnal feeling, they have a quick personnal turnover. I think the people they hire are only there for a paycheck. If a carpet comes back, Oh well.To bad. With the market out there, they could make a killing if they had better quality control.
