Anyone know where I can get an actuating link for a 72 skylark custom front drum (passenger side)? I tried a few on-line places and my local parts store and although I can find spring kits, actuator kits, etc. None have the actuating link incuded.

The acutating link is part of the self-adjustment system for the brake drums. I got the name from the shop manual. Here is a copy of the diagram in the manual showing where it is located. Also enclosed is a pic of the good one from the driver side -- and what's left of the one that broke.

Um.. been a L O N G time since I rebuilt front drum brakes, but, wouldnt the driver and passenger 'actuating link' as you put it, be ambedextrious!?!? :puzzled: Anyway, I believe I have a box of them somewhere! Would you like me to search my stash for one?

Go figure. I just dug a pair of these out for one of our Pontiac brothers. I haven't had any requests for these since I can't remember when. I should have at least one more in a bucket of used brake hardware. Let me know if George doesn't find you one. Thanks, Bob.

gstageg1 - Sorry about no signature line. I was pretty grumpy when I signed up as a new member yesterday and posted this because I was nearly "road ready" on the Buick after many years of work. Just got the vacuume figured out on the heater so I have a working defroster -- important in Seattle. Pulling out to do a final test drive the wheel was grinding like crazy -- another (small) setback. That thing was trying to jam itself between the drum and pad.

Wheelz - Yes -- both sides apear to have exactly the same bend to them. Also from what I am seeing on-line -- the same auto-adjust kit is used for front and back so I think a rear passenger might would work. Keyword here is Think. I am new to the world of digging around to find parts. All the pics in the replacement kits show slightly different bends from what I have -- but you know how they re-use those pictuures and "Actual parts may vary".

Tonight I'll pull the rear drums and see of all 4 have the same link.
