I have a 1970 electra 455 with th400 trans and two 71 skylarks to make one gs skylark.
I will remove the 455 motor and trans from electra

can anyone tell me if the rear end in the electra would fit in the skylark?? And are the electra rear ends posi??

the electra rear will not fit the skylark

some electras had a posi just pull the cover off an check
most common were n the 2.78 an 2.93 gears
but if your lucky it could have 3.23 or 3.42 (if not a posi these gears are an easy resale)

The trans is not really what you want. This will be along shaft TH400. You really need a short shaft TH400 like thoise than came in A bodies from the factory.

But if the trans is good, all he needs to spend is about $90 to have his driveshaft shortened. There are holes in the frame that will accommodate the long tail shaft's transmission's crossmember mount location, I know from personal experience, on a '68 Skylark.

I think you may be overlooking the reason why the longer cars came with the long shaft trans and the shorter A body cars came with a short shaft. It is more compicated than whether a long shaft can be installed in a A body. Otherwise, the factory would have just used one length TH400 trans for A, B, C and E bodies.

The dimension of the drive tunnel pressed in the floorboard and how this relates to a car's interior layout, may also play a role in trans length in some cases.
