Anybody ever install an aftermarket A/C in a 69 skylark? They make them for Chevelle, and I suppose I can use some BBB brackets and such.

Any idea what kit is good to start with?

Vintage Air keeps telling me to use a "universal kit" but they look....universal.

Here is a Chevelle kit from some nice guys, maybe all I need is BBB brackets for a Sanden.

I have an A/C parts car, but I dont want to weld up the firewall PLUS I have a lot of people tell me the new stuff works better anyway.

    Thanks for the help. Jay

I'll be adding either Vintage Air or Classic Air to my 69 convertible within
the next year. But disc brakes are first.

I didnt like talking to the vintage air guys. I am sure they are nice guys, but he didn't want to entertain any concept of A/C other than a prepackaged box of parts.

You already have a heater core and putting in the ac box is nothin. Brackets are all over ebay and here and the compressors are cheaper then some systems. Take your time and it will look all good.

I've kicked this around for awhile for my car as well. I have a complete setup to convert my car to factory A/C but dealing with the firewall cuts and the thought of the huge A/C box is a turn off. There are some pluses in using an aftermarket setup too. A lot less engine bay clutter for one. You can use a firewall plate as well so the line install looks clean. I've even seen some of the chevelle guys run the lines inside the fender up to the firewall and it looks very clean. I also like the fact that you can use an adapter on the original style compressor so you can use the factory brackets and compressor. I'm not crazy about the way the Sanden style compressor looks although it is more efficiant.
