Does anyone know where we can find an aftermarket shifter for our cars? I have a 68 Skylark with a console shifter. I want to retain the factory appearing console. Is there a shifter out there that will fit in the split design of the console? what about an aftermarket plat to convert for the race style shifters?
There is no aftermarket shifter that will directly replace the factory one. You could discard the PRNDLL plate, stick an aftermarket single stalk shifter in there, and fabricate some aluminum pieces areound it, but, IMHO, that would look horrible. I think Mike Garrison (racebuicks) is considering reproducing the 68-9 shifter. I believe there is a thread in the Repro Parts forum. I know good originals are hard to come by.
