anyone know anyone who rebuilds air conditioning compressors I have a 70 wildcat with original compressor in the car but it's ceased. I would like to get it working again.
Is that CEASED or SEIZED? My guess would be a CARDONE rebuilt unit from just about any motor parts store. You can also go junking for a unit that's still got the hoses attached (maybe still has some pressure on it; better yet). You should be able to grab the units' clutch at the front (not the pulley) and turn it with a little effort. Basically, minus the brackets and hose orientation, they are all the same. Where are you from?? ws
Classic auto air will rebuild yours or sell you a reman one. However I would not put the A6 back on it due to the designed in leaking front seal. Theres better options available.
They still leak. Classic rebuilt mine 2 x's and it still leaked. Broke down and bought the proten 6 replacement, paid less than the rebuild and it doesn't leak
I have a GM A6 compressor in the Buchev. It works beautifully; I haven't had it recharged since the initial installation eight years ago. I will agree that the seals go bad more often than other compressors, but I wouldn't avoid one for that reason. I'm eventually going to swap my A6 for a Sanden or similar compressor, but only because of the weight. The A6 is heavy!
Make sure that when it's rebuilt that the front shaft support bearing is also replaced if needed. Too much shaft play will cause the front seal to not seal properly. D&D Auto Antonio also rebuilds them http://www.ddautoair.com
^^^This^^^ I have a pro 6 ten on the white car, it's awesome. Doesnt sling oil like the old stockers love to do so well. I hope to add one to the green car someday
I think you have to answer a question about how important originality is on your situation, first. Assuming it is (and you want the original compressor system), then I have heard almost universal praise for Classic Auto Air with the warranty. But if not, a Sanden (or other A6 compatible compressors with modern designs - some straight bolt-in) offer extraordinarily low parasitic horsepower loss to operate - some as little as 5 horsepower, or so. I think the A6 takes over 20 horsepower to run.
