Im trying to find out what rear shocks to get for my car (66 GS) Im replacing the stock springs with Hocthkis SB springs and also putting new KYB gas-a-just shocks in the front.. Now the question is : To get KYB in the rear- or go with Monroe max air? that can be adjusted by airpressure?? I like the idea that you can adjust rear end hight .. but also heard that KYB gives better handlingo No: o No: o No: any suggestions? Dan.
In my experience, when you use air shocks to raise/level the rearend, it gives a really harsh ride. To set the ride height either get new springs, or bagg it. Unless I was towing Alot, I wouldn't get the air shocks.
I agree! An easy way to raise the height is to add a spacer between the spring and the axle housing. Use alum or steel plates that are sized to support the bottom coil of the spring.
Yep . No air Shocks . The car should use the springs for the ride hieght not air shocks . Air Shocks will make the Buick ride like a ................ ! Use spring spacers , bag it if you want , and a GOOD shock . Oh which shock you ask ... KYB or Monroe on our Buicks . :bla: :bla:
Ok, Im not towing anything .. and not driving around wtih dead bodies in the trunk :Brow: so I think I will go with the KYB shocks:3gears: thanks guys! :3gears:
Just ordered from Summit: Hotchkis HSS1900# SB springs. 2 front KYB KG4515 gas-a-just. 2 Rear KYB KG5507 gas-a-just. :3gears: thanks to all of you Buick nuts :TU:
years ago I bought a 66 GS post from a preacher and i remember seeing the trailer hitch on the back bumper. I asked him about a trailer hitch being on a muscle car and his reply was " that aint no muscle car. it's got all that power because it was made to haul trailers" turns out that the salesman at the Buick dealership told him that when he was looking for a car to haul his portable chapel.
