I knew I had this photo somewhere, but hadn't seen it in a long time. I think I took it at the Seafair Nationals at Seattle International Raceways in the mid 1990's (now the Northwest Nationals at Pacific Racways). Does anybody know anything about this car?

I'm guessing it could be Canadian, since the Rearend Specialties sponsor is out of Richmond, B.C. It has an NHRA Division Six number too. E_SA_Alf_Wiebe_GS.jpg

After doing a quick search, it looks like he still may be active in racing (and building) Stock Eliminator Buicks in BC.

Isn't he the the suspension wizard that Jason line uses in his GS?

That's what I was seeing when I did a quick search.
Looks like he's been involved in some faster classes with the Buick since that photo was taken too. Some D's and C's.

Coincidentally, I went to Pacific today to watch some races. In the distance I spotted a white Skylark or GS (thought it could be Rick Henderson's car). Turns out, it was Alf Wiebe himself. AND, it's the exact car I photographed over 20 years ago. However, instead of running E/SA as a 1971, it was running C/S as a 1970. Yes, he converted it to 4spd and back to the 1970 it actually was.

Had a nice talk with him and watched him run 10.7's (11.35 index) on a temporary motor he put together to be able to race this weekend.

I remember talking to him as well..... been years tho. I had just gotten my '71 and bent his ear a bit.

I did see your message Steve while at the track, thanks for the offer! We have friends in Super Gas and Alcohol Dragster who keep a cooler for us full of MGD and Coors Light. Just a quick call to "Uber" ( Golf Cart!) and off to get cold ones!

I love my Alf rear suspension set up, been running for several years now, can't wait to see how it handles the new power we will be adding

While I was taking photos, I noticed the line for beer and food was pretty long. Ended up going without this time.

That is one of the conditions when I purchased the setup from alf, he asked that I not share pictures to help prevent ppl from coping his stuff. There are some pictures out there if you look. But seeing how I don't want to upset my suspension guy I will not be posting pics, sorry I hope you understand.

Its a different setup, all bolt in, has a triangulated lower bar, but the way it's made you can remove both upper bars, which now mount to a tree bracket to basically located the rear axle side to side, and not have any effect on the pinion angle. The rear springs are crazy stiff. Appears to have a very short and low instant center point. Hits the tires very very hard. Actually though about making a new bracket with a slightly higher location for the secondelay bar to move the instance point farther forward to soften the hit up a little and get a little more lift on the front in. My front comes down early and fast. Even with stiff setting on the shocks up front
