Almost there...almost there.....I feel like one of those guys in Star Wars careening down the tunnel, hopefully I don't hit the side along the way!!! After five years of work, its unreal to actually see it in color... Pretty happy, four coats base, four clear, wetsanding on Monday...only thing I can say at this point is all the block sanding makes the cars straight but does hide the lines slightly....these cars are so subtle.... later Tim
Awesome...I really get a kick out of seeing progress pictures like this. I gives us all motivation to get some work done on our own cars!!:beer:beer I can't wait to see your car finished. Your attention to detail will absolutely put this car above the bar.
its about fricken time.....we been waiting patiently and quitley for pics.. LOOOOKIN GOOOOOOD !!!!! now we cant wait till monday..... ou: .....this is worse then watching a good series on tv....you cant miss one episode or your screwed... more pics more pics.... ...
OK, JUST FOR YOU I will post one more pic. This is the repro quarter that I was so worried about. There was some time spent in metalwork and when blocking to give "eyebrow" some curve to match the other (GM) side, and it turned out pretty good. Real test is in the sun of course and see the bodylines roll by, but in the booth it looks quite good. These cars are so subtle. The blocking may have levelled some of the lines out a bit, not much a guy can do. It sure is straight. We'll see..in the booth there is light everywhere and mega orangepeel so nothing really stands out. I've also discovered that I am much more picky than anyone else..I see stuff nobody else even notices so tough to keep me happy. I promise once car is done I will go over with a fine tooth comb for you guys and point out all the flaws and issues so everyone can benefit from it...large format pictures too...none of this 800x600 stuff. I'm also gonna drive the s**t outta this car!!!! :TU: (amazing, this car has not been on the roads in 19 years now). later Tim
still looking good... :TU: :TU: it will show very well once its wet sanded down...btw...give us a pic after monday of the last pic you posted....and another of the same angle after its wet sanded and buffed...side by side.... btw....i bet you have over 200 pics of it painted ..and you only feed us 1 and then make us beg for another p p p .. :3gears:
Tim, It's looking GREAT!!! :TU: I'm curious as to how the hood, doors, and trunk panels are being painted....are they being sprayed the same time as the body?I've heard some reports of ever-so-slight-differences in panels that are sprayed at different times than the body.... I gotta plan my '66 resto! It's great to see you are putting that car back together....assembly is the best part! I expect to be there next year...
All sprayed at once. Except for the interior bits which we did earlier as thought final spray would be after top install but had the top problem and blah, blah, blah... 1st pic if you look in the background there are other parts hanging, trunklid is out of sight (inside and out done at once), etc. There will be more pics later once wetsanding is done. Color is bizarre, should be standout.. later Tim
Yeah... as far as I can tell, the interior of my '66 was sprayed before the exterior was.... Great color! :TU:
You won't see it on my car. This guy is a master at blending. When he does almost all his cars, the jambs etc are done first, then he assembles interior, panels and whatever else it needs, then masks off and sprays outside and you can never see the blend line or any overspray. Its quite amazing actually. Note where he masked the fenders. We're talking about 100K showcar and show winners too, no drivers. This guy builds nice stuff. I was mostly worried about that repro quarter, but it looks really good. The color is crazy, for sure.... later Tim
As usual it gets worse before it gets better. Car is wetsanded, polish tomorrow...I spent the day out there installing rubber dust shields on wheelhouses, test fitting a few pieces, and my favourite part, the new windshield is installed!! YEAH!!! Windshield been sittng in my crawlspace for like 4 years now. I was going to put it in myself but wanted to use urethane, not the old butyl rubber tape. Wasn't quite sure how it worked, but guy was there today so I said what the hell, I'll pay someone to do it and brought windshield out with me. I helped him prep it, helped him test fit it and helped him install it. We used the stainless tirm to get height exactly right so no big gaps or anything like that since you can set the height with urethane. Took a bit of work, but now I know how. Also cool to see my stainless trim (picked it up last night from a freind who is awesome with polishing it out-like mirrors-way better than GM ever did it) in place. I'm happy to report that even with wetsanding you can see the body lines coming out, and they have the correct "rolling" curve to them.... Anyway, I'm crusing on 3 hours sleep so more pics later (maybe). Oh yeah, Rex I only have 9 pictures from today. !! later Tim PS If you buy new clips from GM for your stainless, check them all before installing. Several of mine were not bent over properly where the stainless snaps on, if you put that clip in and used it, you would NEVER get that trim off without damage (cause now instead of a nice rounded corner for the trim to snap over and then off again, you have a sharp metal tab sticking out further) Will try to get pics of that too, could save people lots of grief...
Wow It is really looking fantastic Tim...great job. BTW - the world needs more orange convertibles! :TU:
Well I'm not doing the wetsanding personally. I helped for a bit but was busy with other stuff. Started with 600, worked up to 2000. Holy labour intensive...holy $$$$$$ Pic attached of glass install (side trim was removed once the height was set). Later Tim
