I was wondering if the rotor assembly from a newer (72 and up) alternator can be used in the older style? I have an alternator for 71 and older applications that needs a rotor assembly. I have one from a 72. It looks the same as the older ones. Just wondering if they're internally different. I'll probably try it anyway, just hope I don't catch my car on fire.

Rotor # 1891201 is common from '64 thru to '72, on most Delcotron models.
Send me the number on the casting & I can confirm it for you.

Wish I saw your post earlier. I just replaced a positive diode and put the thing togther with the newer rotor. Where's the number?? If it's toward the front I'll pull it off. I had a hell of a time getting the brushes to stay in place. I used a plastic tube thing from my brake cleaner instead of a cotter pin like I've done before. I used the cotter pin so I had to make due.

Top front. Flat part of the casting just under the adjuster bolt casting. This will give you the Delcotron number & the amp. rating. You can see it without removing it from the car.
You can always get a rebuilt for the same $ as trying to repair an old one. Take the guts from the rebuilt & use your old casing if numbers are important.
