Are the backing plates for front aluminum drum set ups a different size from the cast iron drum set up? Is it just a simple swap, or does it involve spindle and backing plate to be changed too?

I have 67GS aluminum drums/backing plates and a Skylark with cast iron drums/backing plates. They look the same to me. In fact I have used one alum. drum and one cast iron on the same car. If you are looking at an assem.. It was all probably removed for a swap to disc brakes.

I just needed to make sure, I had removed a set of drums from a car, and when I went to try them on the iron spindles, it seemed like the backing plates weren't the right size (AM I CRAZY???)

Anyone have something they can compare and let me know for sure? Thanks for all the help........... :beer

    Nigel,
There is a 75 Nova in the LKQ/Copher's Bradenton yard that has frt drums.
So, you can use that to compare.
