Check out this rare Olds!!! My dad had a '63 Cutlass when I was a kid. Of course I had to read the owners manual cover to cover. In it, I found info on these turbo charged cars. I have always wondered how fast these little motors could be made to run. They even came from the factory with alcohol/water injection! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...STRK:MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=170174711857&rd=1 Dave
Good Lord, I wasn't quite ready to read a book!! Those cars were slooow but they might get a little faster with something stronger than water in the additive bottle..... :eek2:
I always loved those cars after running across one in the late 70's. For some reason, I thought the turbo versions were 4BBLs also.
I was given a ride in a new one back then. It really seemed fast to a young teen like me. I still remember focusing on the boost gage and right where we were when the driver launched it for me.
The engineering on it was terrible. I read an old test and I think it actually said the 4-barrel Buick was faster. Interestingly, I ran across a 2-bbl Olds 215 with an intake manifold that appeard to have a ring cast into it for a carb doghouse to bolt onto. I wonder if Olds was once considering a blow-through setup with a conventional Rochester carb?
The ring deal on the intake was because the whole air cleaner housing went down and sealed to the manifold. Suposed to keep the carb toasty warm. As I recall the turbo Olds used a side draft carb like on the Corvair. 1 barrel??
"It is possible to drop the crank and heads from the 300 onto a 215 short block and get a 5.0 liter all aluminum V-8 that weighs about 310 lbs fully dressed" I think someone needs to buy this car and set it up for FAST. Think about it....Aluminum block, 5.0 dispacement possible, plus a turbo....in a ~3000Lb car.:Brow:
That would be cool. That ad.....Phew, I almost gave up.......bla bla bla bla bla Lets see the pictures!ou: .....Finally! :spank:
